Romantic, Mountain Themed Styled Shoot | The Gathering | Boone, NC

The mountains are where my heart is and always will be.

Sure, I have spent most of my life in and around cities of varying sizes from Philadelphia, New York, Washington DC, San Diego and now Raleigh...but I never feel the way I do in those places as I do in the mountains.

In the city, my head is on a swivel as I try to take in everything around me (except when I am in New York, only because I know I'll look like such a kook of a tourist so I try to be sly as I pick my sights). But in the mountains, it's just simple beauty. Nothing more than what you see in front of you because you don't need anything more.

Last fall, I had the opportunity to attend an intimate workshop in the mountains just outside Boone, NC hosted by The Gathering and Michelle Wright Events. We had two full days, each day with a different theme, the first of which was a romantic, mountain themed styled session.

While the goal was to shoot all film, I shot a bit of both film and digital as I tend to on wedding days. But as this was styled, I had the opportunity to get more creative, take my time, find new angles and truly pick my shots.

Beyond that I got to watch a great group of fellow photographers find their happy places as well and then sit around the dinner table enjoying a home cooked meal and good conversation and later warming up next to the campfire with some s'mores and a couple glasses of bourbon while watching shooting stars. Things you only do in the mountains.
